Assume the Best.
Why is it that we almost always assume the worst? In a situation. In a day. In an upcoming conversation. In our friend. In our co-worker. In our spouse. In a stranger. Why do we do this?I can’t imagine the amount of time I’ve wasted worrying about what bad could happen.I can’t imagine the amount of sleep I’ve lost thinking about what might take place.I never like it when others assume the worst in me.I would only hope that people would give me the benefit of the doubt.Again… why is it that we almost always assume the worst?A better question. What would happen if we always assumed the best?In a situation. In a day. In an upcoming conversation. In our friend. In our co-worker. In our spouse. In a stranger.I can’t imagine how much more joy and peace I’d have in my day.I can’t imagine the way I’d sleep each and every night. It’d be amazing the way it’d impact others for the good.I can’t imagine how much better and healthier all of our relationships would be.Again… what if we always assumed the best? Now, will the best always happen? Will it always take place? Will the best always be true in our neighbor? In our ex?The answer is no. No, it won’t.Sometimes the worst will happen. Sometimes the worst will be true.In those moments, thankfully we have a God who “knows the plans” He has for us. A Godwho is able to take “what was intended for harm” and is able to “use all things for good.”(Jer 29:11, Gen 50:20, Rom 8:28)
Lord, help us to always assume the best.
